RTPI

Why is membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute important?

In order to be elected for chartered membership status, our planning consultants had to successfully complete an accredited undergraduate or postgraduate degree course followed by at least two years of full-time relevant town planning experience, one year of which had to be post-qualifying. Once qualified, Members are also required to keep up to date with the latest developments in the profession, by means of courses, seminars and training.

Chartered membership status also gives our consultants Direct Professional Access to the Planning Bar which means we can directly instruct Counsel for legal advice, opinion and to appear at inquiries.

As a chartered practice, Ken Parke Planning Consultants Ltd must also carry Professional Indemnity Insurance for the protection of its clients and its employees.

The Royal Town Planning Institute website states that:

‘Chartered Membership is the benchmark to which all other membership classes are related. Upon election to this class, members can use the designation MRTPI after their names. This designation signifies to the public that its holder has knowledge, skills and competence in spatial planning in appropriate depth and detail and that he/she is subject to regulation through a code of conduct that specifies standards of professional ethics.’

Ken Parke Planning Consultants is therefore bound by a professional code of conduct which dictates that our consultants act with competence, honesty and integrity, and exercise independent professional judgement at all times.

Chartered status gives our clients the confidence that they are receiving advice from fully qualified, experienced, knowledgeable, up to date and insured planning experts.
