Outline planning applications were up in March compared with the same month last year in England and Wales, according to new figures.
They recorded a rise of 13% in the latest Market Insight Report from Planning Portal. Meanwhile, there were a total of 11,761 full applications in March – down just 1% year on year.
The latest figures were tempered a little by a 14% year on year fall in householder and associated consents.
Our ‘home’ unitary authority – BCP Council – had the eighth highest number of planning applications (1,313) among local councils in England and Wales in the first quarter of 2023.
Neighbouring Dorset Council UK received 1,618 applications in Q1 – a 4% rise on Q1 in 2022 – taking it to fifth on the list of most received. Cornwall Council was top with 2,258.
There is usually a ‘Spring bounce’ in planning application numbers in March but it is hoped that the encouraging trends in the latest figures continue through the second quarter of the year.
