Planning applications for new homes near well-connected train stations are set to receive automatic approval under proposed updates to the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF).
The government has confirmed that the new default consent will apply to schemes that meet minimum density standards and will include those on green belt land.
The measures for the sites near train stations will appear in the updated National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) to be consulted on later this year as part of a drive to boost housing around transport hubs where infrastructure is already in place.
While proposals to increase the supply of much needed housing are welcome, we will wait to see what the exact criteria and planning conditions will be.
