Public consultation has opened on a review of the New Forest National Park Local Plan.
The Regulation 18 (Part 2) consultation on the draft Local Plan Review runs until 19 December.
Residents, organisations and businesses are being asked by the New Forest National Park Authority to give their views.
Key themes include:
- Meeting local housing needs and supporting thriving communities
- Tackling climate change and enhancing nature recovery
- Protecting the Forest’s unique heritage and character
- Promoting sustainable transport and reducing traffic impacts
Following this consultation, the draft Local Plan is due to be published next summer for further consultation before submission for independent inspection in December 2026.
The authority aims to adopt the revised Local Plan in December 2027 to set out planning policies for the area until 2043.
The New Forest was designated a national park in 2005. Much of the National Park falls under Special Area of Conservation (SAC), Special Protection Area (SPA) and Ramsar (wetlands) designations.
Development of the new Local Plan could be of importance for other environmentally significant areas, so we will keep a close eye on developments.
