Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council’s draft Local Plan is due to go out for public consultation from 29 October to 10 December.

The local authority’s cabinet is being recommended to authorise the process when it meets on September 30.

As previously noted, the council withdrew its previous draft local plan in June 2025 following advice from the Planning Inspectorate.

Now the authority is preparing a new local plan for a 15-year period from 2028/29 – 2043/44 – including  provision for nearly 3,000 new homes a year across the area.

It is vital that the council drafts an ambitious and forward-thinking plan  and takes the difficult decisions – including releasing Green Belt land and giving a broader consideration to a general increase in development densities – to deliver an appropriately aspirational plan that will meet the needs of the local community and economy.
