BCP CALL FOR SITES FOR NEW LOCAL PLAN

July 15, 2025

Following the decision taken to withdraw the BCP Local Plan on 19th June 2025, almost one year to the day of its submission for examination on 27th June 2024, BCP Council are now pushing forwards with a NEW BCP Local Plan.

The plan will be taken back to first principles. This includes a re-examining of the proposed spatial strategy and reviewing of technical reports prepared to support the now withdrawn plan.

The Council will be aware that the reasons behind the plans need for withdrawal were failings in the evidence base, having regard for the Duty to Co-operate, but also with the evidence prepared to support the spatial strategy and a constraints based approach which would deliver a restricted level of housing and not meet local housing needs in full.

To kickstart the new Local Plan making process, BCP Council have launched a fresh ‘Call for Sites’, inviting landowners, developers and the public to suggest potential development sites for housing, employment, infrastructure and other uses.

The focus will be upon housing, but submissions can be made for any use that will help meet local needs.

The Call for Sites Consultation is open until 29th August 2025.

We will be reaching out to our clients directly to discuss the preparation of submissions to continue to promote and support their sites and land interests.

The level of housing need is acute and the Council will need to consider all opportunities in a serious manner.

If your land or site interest is in the BCP area therefore, regardless of where it is located across the three towns of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole and the various hinterlands within the plan area, we would like to hear from you.

We will be happy to advise of the development prospects and help you to promote your land.

There will always be some areas that will not be suitable due to environmental or other constraints, but we will be able to advise you if this is the case.
