COUNCILLORS UNANIMOUSLY APPROVE HOUSING SCHEME

September 29, 2025

KPPC has secured approval for a client’s planning application for 48 homes and a new village hall in Purbeck, Dorset.

Dorset Council’s eastern area planning committee agreed the outline application for land at Binnegar Hall in Binnegar, on Worgret Road, East Stoke, between Wool and Wareham.

The scheme has support from East Stoke Parish Council and the local ward member. It received unanimous support from councillors at the committee.

Specific positive comments included that it is a ‘flipping good site to build upon’ and ‘it is obvious that we should build there’.

KPPC Planning Director Adam Bennett is providing support for the client throughout the planning process for the 7.08 hectare (17.5 acres) site.

The scheme recognises the need to provide a high-quality development which will preserve and enhance the character of the area and respect the existing buildings and natural constraints on the site.

It will deliver significant benefits for the area with 48 homes, including 40% affordable housing, a new community hall for East Stoke Parish and financial contributions for education provision as well as a Suitable Alternative Green Space (SANG).

A former manor house on the site, Binnegar Hall, was previously used for the accommodation of people with learning disabilities. It closed in 2014. Planning permission was previously granted for residential conversion of the building.

KPPC is very pleased to support the client on the development of this site to provide important housing and facilities for the local community as well as benefits for the local economy.

Work is now continuing on  a Section 106 legal agreement to enable the formal issue of the planning permission.

Project partners include: Anders Roberts Cheer (ARC) Architects: Barrell Tree Consultancy: Clarke Saunders Acoustics; Ecosupport; SLR; The Landscape Service; Westcoast (Purbeck Ltd) (client).

  • The application was due to be decided at an eastern area planning committee on September 3 but the meeting was abandoned when not enough councillors returned after lunch for the committee to be quorate and able to continue.
