COUNTDOWN TO PLANNING BILL

March 5, 2025

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government is set to publish its Planning and Infrastructure Bill later this month.

It was announced in the King’s Speech in July and will include measures aimed at accelerating the development of infrastructure and homes.

This could include fast tracking critical infrastructure such as windfarms, power plants and major road and rail projects.

Other elements are a national scheme of delegation for some applications, smaller more targeted planning committees for strategic development and training for planning committee members.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves has also said that the bill will include a zoning scheme, granting a ‘presumption in favour of building’ in areas with easy access to ‘productive urban centres’, such as commuter train stations.

Further details are due to be announced this week. We will keep you updated.
