The government has just published a new consultation on how its proposed Infrastructure Levy (IL) could work.

It is aimed at replacing the existing Community Infrastructure Levy and Section 106 system of securing contributions for affordable housing and community infrastructure.

Undoubtedly some clarity and rationalisation of the system is needed but there are concerns that the new IL make take up to 10 years to be implemented in full, adding even more complexity to a sometimes opaque and over bureaucratic process.
