We’re providing planning support for a major redevelopment of a key brownfield site in Bournemouth, Dorset.
The scheme is for the demolition of the former Conservative Club in Ashley Road, Boscombe, and construction of a new seven-storey apartment complex with 43 flats and two ground-floor commercial units.
There will be a mix of one and two bedroom flats to provide much-needed homes in the area.
A planning application has been submitted to BCP Council on behalf of the client which envisages a well-balanced and high-quality form of development, complementary of the surrounding local context.
Built in 1904, the Conservative Club closed in December 2021 and occupies a prominent location which can be put to better use.
Its site offers a unique opportunity to enhance the character of Boscombe and provide an attractive ‘gateway’ to the area.
The proposal will make a notable contribution towards housing numbers in the district centre and help to stimulate local business both through the construction phase and post construction and provide opportunities for further inwards investment.
Located close to amenities, shops, services and public transport links, the vision is for a car-free form of development to encourage more sustainable modes of transport. This includes covered and secure storage space for 72 bicycles.
There will also be landscaping on the site, including a grassed area, tree species, hedge planting and bat and bird boxes. The new homes will also be thermal, energy and water efficient.
The application, for LJB Estates, now goes to BCP Council for a decision. Other partners in the scheme include ARC Architecture Ltd.
